VISA INFORMATION
30-days visa-free privileges are afforded to citizens of the Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K. and U.S. A.

For other countries, visas are required to enter Taiwan and can be to obtained from R.O.C. embassies, consulates or designated representative offices in visitors’ native countries. Tourist visas are recommended. Foreign nationals may obtain a tourist visa to visit the Republic of China for purpose for sightseeing business, family visits, study or training, medical treatment, or other legitimate activities. Tourist visas may be single or multiple-entry.

CKS International Airport is located in Taoyuan County approximately 40 kilometers, or about 50 minutes by car or bus from downtown Taipei.
GROUND TRANSPORTATION
  • Hotel Limousine
    Limousines from Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport to the Ambassador Hotel are available upon reservation. Please indicate your needs on the hotel reservation form for further arrangement.
  • Airport Taxi
    Taxis queue outside the Arrival Halls of both terminals in the CKS International Airport. To ensure the safety of passengers, only taxis approved by the Aviation Police Bureau after a strict qualification procedure are cleared to operate in CKS International Airport. Taxis are available at CKS International Airport around the clock.
  • The airport taxi charges according to the meter plus a 50% surcharge. Typical cost of a taxi ride to Hsinchu is around NT$1,500(US$45).

  • NOVEMBER 10--Due date for conference materials.
  • Please send slides of your DRAFT presentation to me at mailto:linda.wilson@sematech.org for  including on the printed handout by the TSIA during the conference by November 10.
  • We must send out that day for Taiwan to receive by November 13 so they can print.

    • Slide count is limited to 20 slides, but keep the file size under 10MB.
    • You can continue to work the final presentation until dinnertime of July 11, so your team has a chance for input during the F2F meeting in San Francisco.
  • This presentation is a brief overview of the 2005-2006 ITRS, with focus on the changes from the 2005 ITRS.
  • If you are do not send the presentation by November 10, you must BE PREPARED TO PRINT at least 250 copies of your own material for including as a handout at the conference.
  • Printing your own copies is expensive and time consuming, and I strongly recommend sending a draft to us on time.
  • NOTE---FINAL ITWG presentations are due to TSIA at lunch on December 4 in HsinChu.
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Currency
    The New Taiwan Dollar(NT$) is the national currency. Paper currency comes I $2,000, $1,000, $500, $200 and $100 denominations, while coins come in $50, $20, $10, $5 and $1 denominations.
    The currency exchange rate is around NT$33 to US$1. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at the CKS International Airport, government-designated banks and hotels. Please visit the Currency Converter at http://www.xe.net
    Major credit cards are accepted in major hotels and stores and travelers checks may be cashed at foreign-exchange banks., some tourist-oriented business and most international tourist hotels.

    110 Volts / 60 HZ A.C.

  • Languages
    Mandarin Chinese is the official language in Taiwan, but English is familiar to the younger generation, especially students, and those engaged in export trading, tourism, and the hotel industries. Most taxi drivers do not speak English.

    Taiwan is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time(GMT+0800)

  • Tipping
